Waking up this morning in Ohio to the typical damp and cold of our falls and I couldn’t be more excited.  It’s time to pull out my favorite fall morning meals.  If you are a breakfast skipper, you will never skip breakfast again incorporating Yogi Breakfast into your life.  If you didn’t know you could eat beans for breakfast…well…you can!  Enjoy.  OM, Pamela

subscribeYogi Breakfast

This breakfast is perfect for all yogis. It is Sattvic which means it contains only pure ingredients which are easy to digest. You may use milk, soy milk, almond milk or rice milk. For The Earth or Kapha, it is suggested to not use cow’s milk.

To prepare Yogi Breakfast you’ll need:

  • 8 almonds
  • 1 cup of milk, soy milk, almond milk or rice milk (I like soy milk…lots of protein)
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • Nutmeg
  • Cinnamon
  • Ginger (optional)
  • Turmeric (optional)

Place  almonds in small sauce pan. Add milk.  Add nutmeg, cinnamon, and other spice (not the honey though) Heat on low until milk is warm and bubbles just on the edge. Remove from heat.  Add honey to your mug and pour milk over honey.

Breakfast Dahl

Beans for breakfast? You bet. This bean dish is better than oatmeal and will give you a great sweet start to your day.

To prepare Breakfast Dahl you’ll need:

  • 1 cup dahl (I choose the smallest lightest color for this)
  • 2 cans light coconut milk
  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 1/4 cup dried fruit of your choice (raisins, cranberries, prunes, plums)
  • 1/4 cup organic brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons diced ginger
  • 2 cloves diced garlic (that’s right!)
  • Juice of one lime
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • Cinnamon to taste

Put all of this in a small pot on the stove together. Bring to a boil.   Cover and reduce to simmer. Check on it occasionally for the next 30 minutes adding more coconut milk as needed. If you want to turn this into a complete protein, simply add one cup of rice and two more cups of liquid.
